2018 Scholarship Recipients

Hayden Linderman

Hayden Linderman, son of Keith and Jeri, is graduating from Mt. Baker High School. Hayden plans to attend Montana State University this fall to study Engineering. As a boy playing in the woods and digging ditches, Hayden was fascinated by the flow of water. He is interested in sustaining water availability and efficiency as it relates to agriculture. Hayden is a three sport athlete and served in Associated Student Body roles all four years during high school. Hayden participated in FFA raising and showing swine.

Ellie Steensma

Ellie Steensma, daughter of John and Karen, has completed her third year at Dordt College where she plans to graduate with a degree in Agriculture Education. Ellie has been active helping Dordt present their annual Ag Day event that educates the campus and community. She served as Whatcom County Alternate Dairy Ambassador. Raised on her family farm, she participated in FFA having attended Nationals as well as participating in the National Dairy Challenge this year.

Luke Wolfisberg

Luke Wolfisberg, son of Hans and Colleen, is graduating from Lynden High School and plans to attend Washington State University this fall to study Agricultural and Food Business Economics. He has been working since age 7 on the family dairy and has shown interest in the organic milk industry locally as well as attending a national convention. Luke participated in 4-H attending the national conference in 2017. At State FFA he placed 1st in two events. Luke found time in his busy schedule to compete in Cross Country, Swim and Soccer in high school.

Elea Van Weerdhuzien

Elea Joy Van Weerdhuizen, daughter of Gerrit and Tami, is a Lynden Christian graduate. Elea plans to attend Washington State University this fall to study Agriculture Education. She participated in FFA Nationals in two events and received Gold Emblem Awards in both. She also served as FFA Chapter President this last year. Elea hopes to follow in her Father’s footsteps and become an FFA Advisor after college.

Meghan Harting

Meghan Harting, daughter of Mark and Kristi, is a Ferndale High School graduate who will be attending Washington State University this fall to pursue a major in Agricultural Communications. She hopes to use her education to work with the agriculture community with public relations issues. Meghan was involved in 4-H and FFA having placed first in State for Goat Proficiency this year. Additional activities include children’s ministry at her church as well as playing soccer and tennis for the Ferndale Golden Eagles.

Lacey Biemold

Lacey Biemold, daughter of Harold and Renee, graduated from Lynden High School this spring. She will attend Washington State University this fall to major in Agriculture Education. Lacey has been involved with 4-H and FFA where she competed at Nationals on two teams. She enjoys mentoring other team members showing lambs. During high school she was involved with National Honor Society and served as an Associated Student Body class representative.

Elsa Ericksen

Elsa Ericksen, daughter of Doug and Tasha Ericksen, is a Ferndale High School graduate who will be attending Dartmouth College to study Government and International Relations. A trip to Southeast Asia two years ago shaped her desire for working with sustainable agriculture in developing countries. Elsa has served in various leadership roles in 4-H and FFA showing goats and competing at the State level. While in school she participated in soccer and tennis.
