2014 Foundation Scholarship Recipients

Janis DeJager

Janis DeJager

Janis DeJager, daughter of Pete and Shelli DeJager, has been involved in the Northwest Washington Fair since she was nine and began showing cows through 4-H. She has shown cows every year since and this past year also represented the dairy industry as the 2013-2014 Whatcom County Dairy Ambassador. She is a senior at Nooksack Valley High School and after graduation she plans on attending Whatcom Community College where she will earn her AA degree and then transfer to either Dordt or Cal Poly and major in Agricultural Business or Dairy Science and minor in Agricultural Communications. Her goal is to own and operate her own dairy farm.

Karis VanDiest

Karis VanDiest

Karis is a senior at Lynden Christian and also does Running Start part-time at Whatcom Community College.  Throughout high school, she has been part of the LC soccer team and also the Lynden tennis team.  She has been actively involved in FFA all four years of high school and was the treasurer of her chapter this past year. She has participated at both the State and National levels on the Dairy Foods and Farm Business Management teams.  She has raised market hogs for the Skagit Stockshow and Northwest Washington Fair for the past four years and has also shown a wood project with the LC Ag projects.  This June she will attend the Washington Engineering Institute to begin her degree in engineering.  She thanks the community for supporting her at the fair and her academic future.

Clara Bedlington

Clara Bedlington

Clara Bedlington is currently a senior at Lynden High School. She will be attending Washington State University this fall, and plans on majoring in Field Crop Management. She has grown up on her mom and dad’s seed potato farm, and feels honored to be following in their footsteps. After college, she aspires to become a fulltime agronomist at a berry farm. She is grateful to have received this scholarship and cannot wait to begin her career path in agriculture. GO COUGS!

David Stitt

David Stitt

David Stitt was raised right here in Lynden by his parents Jim and Jennie. David has been an active member of the community, a highly involved student, a leader in clubs and organizations of all kinds and much more. David graduated from Lynden High School in 2012 and Whatcom Community College with his Associates degree in Arts and Sciences that same spring thanks to the Running Start program. During high school David was a very active member of the local FFA chapter competing in different competitions at the State level as well as serving on many officer teams. He had the distinct opportunity last year to travel the state of Washington as an FFA State officer, serving as the 2012 -2013 State Reporter. His travels have now landed him at the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID where he will be studying Agricultural Education with the hopes of becoming a high school ag teacher and FFA advisor.

Trisha Snydar

Trisha Snydar is a senior at Lynden High School and will be graduating as a valedictorian of her senior class with a 4.0 GPA. She has been heavily involved with her school and community over the last four years. Trisha is the ASB Executive President and is the team captain of Lynden varsity fast pitch team. Other than those leadership roles she is also an active member of the FFA, national honor society and freshmen mentors. Trisha has been around the agriculture industry all of her life as her family raises dairy replacement heifers and runs a custom harvesting business. She has been active at the NWWF since a very young age and most recently by showing a market hog through the FFA. Next year Trisha will be attending Pacific University to play softball and major in mathematics with a minor in coaching with hopes to pursue a career as an actuary.
